Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Mountainbea expeditions — from winter packing to booking policies.
GeneralWho is Mountainbea and what do you do?
Mountainbea is India's premier Himalayan expedition travel company, founded by native mountaineers from Kullu-Spiti. We specialize in bike and SUV expeditions across Spiti Valley, Ladakh, and the Trans-Himalayan corridor. With over 1,000 successful expeditions and 15,000+ explorers served, we are the most trusted name in Himalayan adventure travel.
GeneralWhat types of expeditions do you offer?
We offer 8 curated expedition types: Winter Spiti Half & Full Circuit (SUV), Summer Spiti Half & Full Circuit (Bike), Leh Ladakh Classic (Bike), Leh Ladakh with Shinkula (Bike), Leh Ladakh with Hanle & Umling La (Bike), and the flagship Trans-Himalayan Spiti to Ladakh (Bike). Each expedition varies in duration, difficulty, and route.
GeneralDo I need prior high-altitude experience?
For our moderate expeditions (Summer Spiti Half Circuit, Leh Ladakh Classic), no prior high-altitude experience is required. For challenging and extreme expeditions (Shinkula, Hanle-Umling La, Trans-Himalayan), prior experience above 10,000 ft and on mountain roads is strongly recommended.
GeneralWhat's the total distance covered in the Trans-Himalayan expedition?
Approximately 2,000 km over 13 days, covering the most challenging and beautiful roads in the Indian Himalayas — from Manali through Spiti Valley to Ladakh.
GeneralAre fuel stations available along the routes?
Fuel availability varies by expedition. In Ladakh, fuel is available in Leh, Diskit (Nubra), and Tangtse (Pangong route). In Spiti, fuel stations are very limited — we carry jerry cans of extra fuel and plan fuel logistics carefully. For the Shinkula route, there are no fuel stations for 200+ km.
